Opera In The Outfield: Free "Aida" Performance
Saturday, September 23, 2017, 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM
500 South Capitol St. SE
Washington, DC 20003
Join us for a special festive evening with opera fans of all ages to see the Washington National Opera's production of AIDA. This free presentation is a simulcast of the performance in the Kennedy Center's Opera House shown on a super wide screen.
Giuseppe Verdi composed AIDA as a commission by Egypt for the 1871 opening of the Cairo Opera House. The love triangle of Aida (Ethiopian slave/ princess), Radames (Egyptian military hero), and Amneris (daughter of Egypt's king) is complicated by loyalty to country. Striking sets and costumes with vibrant hieroglyphics and calligraphy lend the classic story a unique modern edge along with spirited dancing and breathtaking acrobatics to match Verdi's expressive music. After all, this IS opera!
FBWEV has reserved seats for up to 30 people in sections 128, 129, 130. Please arrive by 6 pm to enjoy the pre-show activities. At least 10 people must be present before we can be seated.
