Harriet Tubman: The Woman Called Moses
Monday, February 26, 2018, 10:30 AM
The Village at 2430 K St NW
Registration cancellations will be accepted
You probably know Harriet Tubman as a conductor on The Underground Railroad, but there is much more to her story. Marcy Heidish, author of the historical novel “A Woman Called Moses,” will talk about the arc of Tubman’s life from slave to savior to servant. Heidish’s book was adapted into a television movie starring Cecily Tyson, which is still available on DVD.
Among other accomplishments, Tubman was the first American female military leader. Heidish says Tubman sets a challenge to us all in her rise from adversity to become “Moses” -- in honor of her courageous efforts to rescue family and friends from slavery.
Heidish is the author of numerous novels as well as books of nonfiction and poetry. She has taught creative writing at Georgetown University, The George Washington University, Fordham and Howard University. She is a Village member who lives in Foggy Bottom.
The doors will open at 10 a.m. and close promptly at 10:30 so our greeter can attend the program.
All members are invited to attend.
Registration is required.
