Taking Steps to Remain Independent
On the evening of October 24, 2013, Attorney Myrna Fawcett gave a presentation to over 20 Foggy Bottom West End Village members and volunteers at St. Paul’s Parish Hall on the three most important documents that we all should have to remain independent.
In her presentation, Ms. Fawcett outlined the importance of making decisions, documenting, and updating one’s personal directives using (1) advance directives; (2) powers of attorney for financial and healthcare decisions; and (3) a will or trust.
Ms. Fawcett, who serves on the FBWE Village Board of Directors, practices law in Foggy Bottom (Fawcett & Fawcett PLLC). Her practice focuses on Elderlaw, guardianships, conservatorships, durable powers of attorney, supplemental needs trusts and the representation of families of special needs children and of persons with disabilities. She is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and is a member of the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York bars, and of the National Academy of Elder Lawyers.
