Foggy Bottom West End Villagers toured the Renwick Gallery's opening exhibition "WONDER" and found that it is not false advertising - it is indeed appropriately named!
The docent provided an overview of the changes made to the Renwick in the two years that it was under renovation as well as valuable insights into the creation of the art in the exhibition and the background of the featured artists. Nature plays an important part in the elements used in the art (insects installed on walls to look like wallpaper , an artist's re-creation of an old-growth cedar tree that occupies an entire room, giant habitat-like structures made entirely of saplings) and man-made materials are used in fascinating ways (green marbles are laid out on a floor and climb walls and a window depicting the Chesapeake Bay watershed; and thousands of strands of polyester sewing thread create a breathtaking hanging).
Those not able to attend the tour are encouraged to visit the exhibition on their own and take one of the regularly-scheduled public tours which will enhance anyone’s appreciation of the art.
