Great events ahead courtesy of the program committee

We’ve only just welcomed in the New Year and the program committee already has a full slate of activities scheduled for January and February. Each month, we try to schedule activities that stretch our members physically, socially, culturally, and intellectually. I know that many of you participated in our first wellness series of the year and learned how to prepare healthy menus and de-stress your life. Seventeen villagers also attended the National Gallery of Art—Tour of Dutch Galleries with senior lecturer, Eric Denker. We’re always thrilled when Dr. Denker agrees to lead a tour as he is an exceptional guide.

However, don’t worry if you missed those events, in addition to our affinity groups and standing weekly and monthly programs, we still have several excellent events scheduled for early this year. Be sure to register for our January Happy Hour at Ris. In addition to catching up with your fellow Villagers, you won’t be able to resist the sumptuous appetizers that Chef Ris Lacoste and her staff are preparing for us. Also, don’t miss the opportunity to lunch as we have both a men’s and a women’s lunch scheduled this month.

Looking ahead to February, we are especially pleased to announce that on Tuesday, February 6, the indefatigable Carol Schwartz will tell us about her memoir, “Quite a Life!: From Defeat to Defeat … and Back”. Carol is known for her candor, so this will be an excellent opportunity to get some inside information about local Washington politics. Also in February, Robert Sharer will discuss how you can best manage your financial needs. And don’t forget about the book club, which meets February 13 to discuss “Destined for War: America, China, and Thucydides’s Trap” by Graham Allison.

Although we’re pleased that we have been able to offer so many varied programs, we know everyone has great ideas for new affinity groups and/or programs or even contacts that you can share with us. Your feedback helps us to provide stimulating and innovative programs. Please call the office at (202) 333-1327 and Leigh and Peter will ensure the suggestions reach the appropriate program committee member.
